Medrano Brothers On the Baseball Field

With the baseball season wrapping up the Mustangs came up short making the playoffs. But as a mom, it was amazing watching BOTH Daniel and Jesse playing every Tuesday and Friday night at Northside for the Mustangs. Daniel was playing 3rd base and left field while Jesse played right field. There were times when Coach Campos would stress out seeing Jesse in right field. But Jesse came through! If you had the opportunity to watch them play - it was great. I wore my shirt proudly, THE MEDRANO FAN CLUB - Daniel #22 ~ Jesse #21. Thank you to those who went to the games, your support meant the world to Daniel and Jesse. You could see that they were both proud of each other and supported each other. There were even times when Daniel would come up to Jesse right before he would come up to bat and give him that big brother advise to stay calm and make him feel confident that he can come through with a hit. I honestly feel that Jesse made Daniel very proud!

Daniel Finally Comes Home

On December 31st Daniel had a stroke. He has been in and out of the hospital and rehab centers. Well, on January 24th Daniel finally came home. He has been doing very well at home. He is so happy to be home now! He is walking around the house without his walker. He is trying to use his left arm as much as he can. He has even done the laundry! Daniel has a long road ahead. But with the nurses, physical therapist and his care giver, Jared, Daniel is on the road to recovery.

Thank you for all your prayers. And thank you for all your help to make Daniel's fundraiser such a sucess. The Medrano Family raised over $4,000. This will help Daniel with his medications and help him with any changes that he has to make at the house to make his life easier. Again, thanks.

He also had a chance to meet with some of his co-workers from the city and from Wesley. It was great to see his face light up when he would see someone that he has not seen for a while. Daniel commits to play football at Mary Hardin Baylor

Daniel joins "The Cru"

On Wednesday, February 4, 2009 Daniel committed to play football at Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas (located between Austin and Waco). Just close enough for mom to go and visit! And we hope that Dad will recover so he can go see him play too! And let's not forget about Jesse, he would love to see him play - but I think he really wants to check out the baseball team! Maybe they both can play baseball together for the Cru!

Daniel, Lisa and Paul went to MHB to visit on January 30th and 31st. They all came back excited. They loved the campus, they loved the coaches and loved the football program they have. They told Daniel they are looking to put him as a full back. WOW! The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor finished the 2008 season ranked #3 in the nation in both major Top 25 Polls. The Cru was ranked 3rd nationally by both the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com. The #3 national ranking matches last season's final ranking as the second-highest end-of-season ranking in the 11-year history of UMHB football. The Cru was ranked 2nd in the country in the final polls of the 2004 season after falling to Linfield College 28-21 in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.

We look forward to seeing Daniel play football for The Cru!

D Med on the field

I can't believe this is his SENIOR year! He is the captain of the football team and having a blast. We have had some ups and downs already in the football season, but we would not have it any other way - Friday night Football!

For those that don't know, DJ, #43, is playing Middle Linebacker (MLB) and Fullback (FB) for the Mustangs. And of course, mom hates seeing him playing FB. I love watching him hit people and jack people up, but I don't like it when he gets hit.

The mustangs are 2-2 right now, losing to O'Connor and Warren. As FB he has 9 carries and is averaging 6.7 yards per carry.

He is missing his Tia Yola, Tio Paul, Josh and of course most of all ......... his Gabster. Sorry Tia Yola. He loves seeing his Tio Frank, Tia Minnie, Les, Tio Mike, Tia Lisa, Tia Patsy, Tio John, cousins Arturo & Heidi and Adanisto at his games. But I think the best surprise was when his Tia Yola, Tio Paul, Josh and Gabby was when they surprised him at the Lee pep rally. I wish I had taken a picture when DJ saw Miss Gabby at the pep rally. He had no idea. And would you believe Jesse kept the secret. Even though the Orozco's were at Jesse's game on Thursday, he did not say a word to his brother that they were in from Arizona.

Well if you have time on a Friday night, come join us at a Jay game and come and sit with the MEDRANO FAN CLUB. Tio Mike cheers his heart out that he even has the administrators from Jay cheering with him. Move them chains baby, move them chains !!

In July DJ participated in the Rice Football Camp and visited the campus. That is his goal - to go to Rice.

I went to open house last week and his teachers love him. All his teachers say that he is the top senior in his class and has the highest grade. They all mentioned that he is an exceptional student. And enjoy having him in their class. They are impressed that he has good grades and also takes the responsibility of being the captain of the football team.

What's new with Jesse?

Well, Jesse is enjoying his sophomore year at Jay. He is playing on the JV Football team. He has an awesome jersey number - #84. I told him that it was the year his mom graduated. I won't say what he said!!! He is such a utility player Coach P can't decide where to put him. One week he is playing DEnd, next week he is playing Tight End and then the last couple of weeks he has been playing Fullback. The JV team is 3-1, their only loss was to O'Connor. Good luck next week against Clark.

Jesse and Maggie are coming up on their one year anniversary. You can tell that she brings so much love and happiness in his life that he just lights us when he talks about her. They enjoy spending time at school and they both help Ms. Deleon with the cheerleaders at the varsity football games. She is such a sweet young lady.

As far as school goes, I went to Open House last week and ALL his teachers just love him to death. They just think he is such a special student. Well behave and has so much respect for his teachers. All his teachers told me that I had a wonderful son. Awesome job Jesse!

So far he says the best surprise was the Lee game. He was so surprised when his Tia Yola, Tio Paul, cousins Josh and Miss Gabby showed up at his first football game of the 2009 season. He was so excited that after the game the team was waiting for him to get on the bus so they can leave, but he was busy visiting with his family that came from Arizona!!

It's Game Time !!

Jesse's baseball season is in full swing. Jesse has been catching for the JV team and has been doing a great job. There are times when Coach Velasquez yells at him because he knows better.

Jesse is really enjoying playing at Jay. He has such a great time with his new team mates. He is such a leader. Pretty good for being just a freshman. He looks forward to playing baseball every game. He enjoys playing schools that he knows players from his years at Westwood and Edgewood.

Jesse has had some great plays as a catcher. He has gunned down several runners at second base. He has even hosed down a couple of runners at third and first. He has even blocked a few runs from crossing the plated.

Jesse loves playing the game. He loves it as much as Daniel loves football.

If you get a chance to see Jesse play, bring your lawn chair and sit back and enjoy the show!!!

Baseball in Full Swing at Jay

Daniel is having a blast!! He hit his third homerun against Taft today. They won 13-4. Next opponnent is Reagan on Thursday.

We lost to Del Rio on Monday (7-1). Daniel went 0-3. Not a good day.

We beat Warren in 8 innings. Wow what a game. We were losing 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Daniel came up to bat earlier in the game and had got hit by a pitch. The next two times at bat, Daniel did not get on base. We had scored 4 runs on errors that Warren caused. With runners on second and third with two outs and Daniel comes up to bat Daniel hits a ball deep to left field over the fielders head and the ball hits the wall. The two baserunners come in and tie the game. Daniel had a stand up double. WOW!!! The next batter comes up to bat and makes the third out. They hold Warren in the top of the 8th inning. First batter comes up to bat and gets a single and stretches it to a double - safe !!! Hector comes in and and hits a line shot to right field and the runner comes in. JAY Wins!!! What a game.

Daniel has been doing great in left field. I think even Coach Campos is surprised on how he has adjusted from a catcher to a left fielder. He has even thrown a runner out at home from left field. Watch out Ken Griffy Jr.!!!
